Name and job title: Kevin Rogers, Partner
Organisation: Wilson Browne Solicitors
Category sponsored: SME 50+ employees
Your business: How many people do you employ in Northamptonshire and, in a few words, can you tell us what your company does?
Wilson Browne Solicitors employs approximately 140 people across its various locations in Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. We help individuals and businesses with their legal needs. Whatever your business, whatever its size, chances are we can help. If you’re a fledgling business, a mature one, owner managed, PLC or subsidiary of an overseas parent, then we advise businesses just like yours across a broad range of issues.
We have been the Northamptonshire Law Society Large Law Firm Of The Year multiple times; shortlisted for the UK Law Society ‘Excellence’ awards several times; have achieved 2 “Highly Commended” awards in 2018; have a number of teams and lawyers in the Legal 500 (a who’s who of the legal world) and are regularly called upon by local media to give insightful commentary regarding important legal matters.
Why have you chosen this particular category to sponsor and what aligns your business to the Northamptonshire Logistics Awards?
This category is an ideal fit for our client base, although we do look after businesses of all sizes. A number of our clients operate in the logistics sector whether they be entrepreneurial SMEs or international freight and warehousing operations.
What major challenges do you think the logistics sector/ your sector faces?
The ‘B’ word ! Putting that to one side, we are all ware of the acute skills shortage in the sector which coupled with planning and infrastructure challenges makes for challenging times. On top of that there are environmental issues and technological challenges.
And how will your company tackle these challenges?
We can help business be as prepared as possible for Brexit, or to minimise what effects of what happen-s post Brexit. In addition, we have teams with the expertise and knowledge to help business within the sector, to overcome their own specific challenges.
Can you share an unknown fact about your company?
We do ‘toilet twinning’ ! A novel way of twinning our washrooms/toilets with toilets across other continents. For example there’s one just i4834 miles away ! That’s the distance from Kettering to Zambia, the location of our latest piece of charitable work. In total we have sponsored seven toilets to provide vital sanitation in remote areas in need of essential services and utilities.
We want to encourage as many businesses in the logistics sector to enter these awards – what words of encouragement can you share with us? Why do you think these awards are so important?
Logistics is a massively important sector to Northampton, especially with such a large proportion of the workforce being employed in the sector – it’s just one of the reasons we have dedicated sector expert s who focus on Logistics. Even though people often don’t view legal practices as such, we are ourselves an SME (albeit one owned by the Partners) so we have much in common with a lot of the businesses on our doorstep – our support for the awards is a way of showing support for local business. Don’t be afraid to get involved – you might just win!
What advice or words of wisdom do you have for a successful career and business?
Never be afraid to try. I’ve worked as a security guard and in a well know carpet retailer before taking up a career in law…where I am not a partner and board member for a vibrant local business.
In three words what does Northamptonshire mean to you?
